This page covers some of my typewriters that need restoration, and that should look particularly beautiful if not stunning once restored. The conditions vary from machines that require full restoration to machine that should only need a quick cleaning.
Among them are a couple of rare machines, as well as several uncommon ones. There are 6 machines from the nineteenth century, while all the other ones are from the twentieth century.
Nineteenth century standard typewriters
1885 - This early Remington 2 with serial 9497 is my oldest typewriter. It will need a solid restoration. I already have most of the missing parts.Ca. 1893 - This Caligraph requires a full restoration, including repainting, replating, an pinstripes. I have a parts machine as well.1890s - This Smith Premier 1 should look beautiful once restored, however, its paint is in challenging condition. I have some replacement parts.1894-1896 - This Densmore 1 requires a full restoration, including repainting and replating. The only good news: this machine doesn't need pinstripes.1896 - This is a very early Remington 7 with tabulator with serial 3397. It has a broken key and a missing tabulator plaque in the back, but otherwise is in great condition.1899 - This Densmore 4 is in quite good condition and only needs some conservative cleaning and restoration. It is the most expensive typewriter I have ever bought.
Twentieth century standard typewriters
1910 - This Royal Standard is in good shape and only needs some cleaning and minor restoration.1913 - This Royal 6 is in good shape and only needs some cleaning and minor restoration.1914 - This rare Royal 8 is in good shape and only needs some cleaning and minor restoration. Very few Royal 8s are known to exist.1907 - This Smith Premier 5 features a Gorin tabulator. It has broken parts, missing carriage bearings, and needs serious restoration, but otherwise looks quite good.1907 - This second Remington 7 with Gorin tabulator is in great condition.1910 - This Remington 10 with serial 99001 should look great once cleaned.1910s - This Hammond 12 is in good shape but has some broken parts. I have replacement parts for the bell and front bar, but not yet for the spools.1916 - This beautiful Royal 10 has double windows, pinstripes, and apothecary keys. It should look amazing once done.1917 - This rare Courier was made in Europe, based on the Oliver 3.1917 - This other Remington 10 has potential. I had some parts replated to fix it.1919 - This Oliver 9 is in excellent condition, missing spool covers, but with the pencil holder. It probably only needs minor work.1921 - This Oliver 9 is in very good condition, including spool covers, but missing the pencil holder. It probably only needs minor work.1920s - This Remington Vertical Adder Model-21 needs moderate restoration. It includes two totalizers.1920s - This massive Remington Bookkeeping Machine Model-23 is one of the heaviest machines I own.1930s - This beautiful electric Varityper shouldn't need much work. It has smooth paint. It needs fixing its return lever.
Portable typewriters
1902 - This Blickensderfer 7 needs serious restoration. I have a parts machine to help.1928 - This black Underwood 4-bank portable has beautiful black paint.1929 - This duotone blue Royal P should look wonderful after cleaning and fixing the back decal.1930 - This green Underwood 4-bank portable will look good given its color.1930 - This Remington 3 already looks great. Only minor cleaning should be needed.1930s - This Torpedo 12 will be a stunner.
